How to Have Fun Inside on a Rainy Day
75
Rainy days can be a challenge for people stuck inside all day. Kids tend to get a little squirrely, and mothers go a little crazy trying to keep the kids from complaining about boredom. But with a little bit of thought and creativity, you can come up with some fun activities for wiling away the hours on a rainy day.
Play Board Games
Board games have become a lost treasure in today's high-tech age. Kids and adults are used to playing games on their computers. Of course, anyone can do that on a rainy day. There are also lots of social networks to interact with, along with web surfing and other computer-centered things to do.
How about an all-day game of Monopoly? Parents, college dorm dwellers and kids eight-years-old and up can play Monopoly for hours and hours. For younger kids, there is Candy Land and Clue. Remember Professor Plum, Col. Mustard and Mrs. Peacock? Checkers and dominoes are also good time-fillers. And what kid can pass up a rousing game of Fish?
Camping Out in the Living Room
Pull out the old quilts, blankets and bedspreads. Bring in several chairs. Hang the blankets over tthe chairs and put an old plastic table cloth on the floor, covered with an old sheet. Give the kids a couple of flashlights and -- voila! Camping in the living room! Let the kids eat in their tent. Turn on the T.V. and slip a cartoon C.D. in the C.D. player and let the kids watch T.V. from their tent.
Ping Pong, Playdough and Red-Light/Green-Light
If you have a basement and a ping pong table, you can engage your kids and teens in that. After the kids tire from playing ping pong, put a plastic table cloth on the floor and challenge the kids to make play dough animals.
Here is the recipe for playdough:
Mix 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of water, 2 cups of flour and 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Add a drop of food coloring for whatever shade you want your playdough to be.
After making playdough zoo animals, have the kids clean up everything and then have them play a game of Red-Light/Green-Light.

Useful to parents while indoors with kids. Such days can be quite a challenge. Good advice.

Hi Jenna,
Thanks for this Hub!
I noticed that my kids are far more creative since we decided to unplug the so addictive PS3...
No doubt we'll be even more creative during raining days (believe me, we have a lot ;-)
Cheers, Mike
